KATY UPDATE FOR SEPTEMBER 15-OCTOBER 1ST.
1) I will be out of town Friday, September 25th. Because of this, I will need to hold practice (WITH ME) Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday of that week. If you cannot make one of these days, please let me know ahead of time, and we will try to work something out.

2) I will be out of town for a work conference Thursday, October 1st and Friday, October 2nd. Because of this, I will need to hold practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week. I will not be there on Wednesday until 4:15 because of a meeting that I cannot reschedule. Please let me know if you cannot make one of these practices, and again, we will try to come up with something else.

3) I would like everyone to hav eat least a basic outlline of a case no later than October 1st so we can begin debating with them. This means, everyone should be looking through Planet Debate, or Big Sky to come up with case ideas. Please talk to me about scheduling time to go over case ideas if you would like help writing a case. All novices must schedule time with me to write cases.

4) Drama: I don’t like it, so let’s not do it. If you have a problem, please speak to me about it before it becomes an issue. I’m expecting you all to act like young adults, and I am planning on treating you with the respect that befits that status. If you cannot handle this, please let me know.l

5) I would like to have a pizza party some night in the next few weeks to get to know you all a little better. Let’s try and come up with a night in the next two weeks that most of you are free.

6) Debate is an event based on what you know. Because of this, I would like all of you to start expanding what you know. This means reading and watching the news. Documentaries are great. Reading the newspaper on the internet is also a really great resource. The more up you can be on your current events, the more prepared you will be to debate. I
would like each of you to read the paper, either online or a hard copy as often as possible. We will talk about current events that relate to any of the topics, and I will be bringing them to your attention as I find them. I encourage all of you to do the same.

7) I’m really excited about this year. I had alot of fun debating in high school and I learned so much that helped me in college and in life. I plan on working hard to see that you all are the best that you can be. I hope that you have the same goals.

8) Feel free to contact me at any time at by cell or e-mail.
